Fashion Spotlight: Gant By Michael Bastian
Since 2010 Michael Bastian has been collaborating with big brand GANT presenting amazing collections that have even now branched into women’s wear. Born in 1965 Michael Gant went through many other job positions before releasing his first collection in 2006. He previously worked for Polo Ralph Lauren as well as Tiffany and Co eventually becoming a men’s fashion director for Bergdorf Goodman. Gant on the other hand has its origins way before even Bastian was born, originating in fine shirts all the way back in 1941. Throughout the 60’s Gant held dominance in the shirt department, becoming a well respected global brand.
The amount of pressure that both brands must feel when collaborating must be immense, as after all how can two fashion masterminds combined get it wrong? The S/S 12 collection does everything but get it wrong, featuring fresh colours and design elements from both designers means that it is a excellent collection for the younger trendy crowd. The collection is a welcome clash of Hawaii meets hippy meets American vintage and is an explosion of colour and pattern.

Implementing vibrant pops of yellow, turquoise and green makes this ready to wear line perfect for the months ahead as it gradually gets warmer. The lines take on the on-trend Rugby shirt is excellent with its deconstructed collar and is a great addition to anyone’s wardrobe as a classic piece. The dishevelled easy wearing approach that the collection has means it’s perfect for anyone who doesn’t want to try too hard to dress well but still look the part. Overall the collection is fun and it is the little details like the tiki print that help it to be one of the lesser serious collections, and by no means is this a bad thing. Exciting collaborations can sometimes be a slight anti-climax however with what this one has offered so far there is no room for disappointment as of yet.
