Fashion Spotlight: Todd Snyder
With the New Year well and truly here it’s time to focus your attention on the forthcoming year and what personal and professional achievements you have lined up for 2012. Focusing on the future brings us to new designers that have shown early promise on the catwalks. Todd Snyder debuted his first collection in A/W 11 to rave reviews by major fashion publications and as a previous creative director of J.Crew it is obvious this is a man with good taste.
The Iowa born designer favours the word ‘smart’ for his collections, citing British tailoring as one of his major influences and muses. His collections are a class of American styling meets British cuts, oozing sensibility and providing clothing suitable for the modern go-getting man. The classic silhouettes of his clothing clash with the textures and materials he chooses to use giving the collection an urban twist. His clothing doesn’t fabricate what previous designers have done, it feels real and like something every man would want to wear.
Looking forward to his S/S 12 second collection Snyder has chosen to stick with the elements of British tailoring and military influence from his debut but by mixing it with a lighter palette and white linen it makes it suitable for the impending (or not) warmer climate. Deep navy hues join this collection and make it seamless throughout. A predictable huge trend for S/S is safari and this can be seen in the earthy shirts and shorts of this collection. Ultimately Snyder’s S/S line builds on the strengths on what he has already shown but shows positive advancement and inclusion of trends that will be essential for the upcoming season.
