Pattern and Colour

When it comes to adding the final touches to a look, focusing on the patterns and colour you wear can really increase your overall style. Pattern can flourish a look, and colour can brighten up that monochromatic style 90% of men tend to opt for. Here at MFM, we’ve spoke about ways to way colour throughout our existence, whether you want to add colour in a subtle way or wear colour as a statement, using neutralisers are always key.

Key Tip: NeutralisingUsing darker tones to neuralise a colour. Layering a bright coloured buttoned down shirt, underneath a dark toned blazer, dark denim and dark toned footwear will neutralise the bright coloured shirt. The shirt at first sight, seems as if it will really stand out. But the neutralising from the dark toned clothing cancels out the brightness, but cleverly still adds a touch of subtle colour. The same can be applied to stand out patterns such as floral.

Showcased in this video, Kean Etro explains the importance and the designers focus behind colour and patterns. Here’s some photos to take inspiration from, of how to implement colour and patterns:

Adding pattern and colour to a look can really enhance it, and it can easily be achieved whether you want to add it subtly or as a statement. Accessories can be used to also add subtle touches, such as a coloured pocket square or a patterned tie, all create the same subtle effect as layering.
