The Shirt Jacket

The shirt jacket has become increasingly popular and an essential piece of menswear clothing, as it is very versatile and functional. Wearable throughout the year for all different seasons, being available in lightweight fabrics for summer and more heavyweight fabrics for winter!

As seen on the catwalk and in stores, the shirt jacket has been updated with functional detailing and authentic style materials. Becoming a more lightweight jacket for summer but still keeping elements of heritage style, more for the outdoors style of the jacket, seen from Oliver Spencer and Taylor Stitch for A/W 12

New details have been spotted such as oversized chest pockets to give a bold statement on this style -emerging from the combination of jacket and shirt design and creating a new focal point. Plus, four pocket styling created from the shirt/jacket clash, which creates a more classic style with cargo and military details coming in to light. Other details, such as rounded hems and regular collars highlight the influences from the classic shirt shape, contrasted with jacket elements like tab adjusters and concealed zip plackets.

Diamond quilting is still a strong style direction from last year on jackets for A/W12. Yet denim is a strong contender for the  main materials of this jacket, especially for during the summer months appearing in authentic styles and mismatched washes to give a fresh look. Although heavyweight flannel materials and heavy cotton, contrast twills are still strongly associated with the shirt jacket and also singularly just the shirt.

So whatever your style for summer or winter, or if your looking for a staple item you can easily mix and match with other pieces the shirt jacket is definitely a piece you should purchase!
